Thomson Reuters Checkpoint has released new, customizable tools to address user entities’ concerns about controls related to security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy. PPC’s Practice Aids for Reporting on Controls of Service Organizations – SOC 2 Engagements provide extensive guidance, real-life examples, control matrices, and time-saving checklists to help practitioners perform complex service organization controls (SOC) 2 engagements effectively and efficiently.

The rapid growth of data housed in the cloud, combined with highly publicized security breaches at major retailers, government agencies, and other vendors, has increased awareness of the importance of data controls.

“In response to an increasing need for assurance services related to information security and data privacy, many CPA firms have developed niche practices in this area,” said Scott Spradling, vice president of the audit and accounting segment with the Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters. “We are very pleased to provide these new tools to help practitioners conduct SOC 2 engagements with greater confidence.”

Thomson Reuters Checkpoint  has also released a special report; Cloud Security, Data Breaches and the Need for SOC 2 Engagements, which provides an overview of SOC 2 engagements. The special report also discusses differences between SOC 2 engagements and other similar types of engagements performed on the controls at service organizations.
